William A. Nathans b 1981 Painter
I began my formal artistic training at the School of Visual Arts, New York City earning a BFA degree in Cartooning and Illustration and then furthered my training at the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto, Canada. In 2009 I landed my first major portrait commission of John Cardinal Foley which now hangs in Vatican City. This in turn lead to more and I continue to paint portrait commissions to this day. People are my inspiration and I strive to paint the inner essence of either portrait or landscape, working to capture the subject’s true character and inner emotions. I attempt to paint more than just what is before me and I try to evoke a greater message of truth, particularly in the most ordinary, for it is in the ordinary that the extraordinary messages are brought forth.
