Commissioned Portrait Procedure

Every painting and drawing I complete is done with the utmost care and consideration. Each work becomes not only a work of art but an heirloom. These simple steps will help to ensure that the finished painting or drawing will not only describe the character and disposition of the sitter but will stand alone as a fine work of art.
1. General Meeting : A general meeting will first take place in order to establish a professional relationship with the sitter as well as gaining an understanding of the sitters disposition and character. In this meeting the composition of the painting will be discussed, including the size, setting and clothing. The sitter will be guided by my sense of taste and knowledge of design. It is important to note that the portrait is not only a physical description but a glimpse into the nature of the sitters being.
2. Preliminary Work: At least 2 hours is required of the sitter to sit for a portrait sketch and color study. Afterwards, digital photographic reference shots will be taken. The whole process will take no more than 4 hours depending. No pre-existing photographs will be considered. I then begin the process of perfecting the overall design and composition of the portrait sketch in the studio. Once finished the portrait sittings will begin.
3. Studio Work: A deposit of 40% of the sum must first be paid before the first sitting. All sittings for the duration of the portrait will be held either at my studio or at the clients home. It must be understood that all the work must be done from life. Sittings range from three to six hours at a time. The client usually sits for a duration of 20 minutes and breaks when necessary. The schedule of the sittings is based around the clients availability and the whole process may range from two weeks to six months depending on the regularity of the sittings and the size of the canvas.
4. Final Sitting: A final sitting will be asked of the sitter to reinforce any remaining touches to the portrait before the unveiling. Upon completion the remaining 60% balance is due.
